Dear Friends

It is really very sad that MCI has not clarified its stand on the contentious & important issue of NEET-PG-CET. It has put our career at a stake only for political & monetary interests.

HERE IS AN ANALYSIS OF THE REAL SITUATION AT PRESENT:

(I) ADVANTAGES IF CET-NEET IS IMPLEMENTED FROM JAN 2012
Well, though all of us get overjoyed as soon as we receive any news regarding NEET-CET, have you ever given a thought how better / worse it will be?

1. One definite advantage will be a reduction in EXPENSES incured on filling various forms: this time even PGI form costs Rs 1000. All other forms cost >=1000 Rs some as high as Rs 4250 (DNB). Filling various forms itself costs about Rs 15,000-20,000 if u give both AIIMS, PGI, All INDIA , STATE & DNB. The forms of private colleges are still costlier & if u fill them, your expenses goes further up.

2. An added impt advantage will be reduction in expenses incured on travelling, lodging etc for various exams. Every1 knows how people loot us when there are exams. A room worse than a prison cell in chandigarh costs more than Rs 1000 for 1 night before PGI Exam.

3. MOST IMPT ADVANTAGE ( & ALSO THE BIGGEST HURDLE) : Private College Merit seats would be added to pool of available seats for meritorius students since they can no longer sell them.

BUT it will be an advantage only if YOU CAN PAY ABOUT 5-6 LAKHS/ YR. The present fees for a Clinical PG degree seat in prvt medical colleges is around 4-5 lakhs/annum.
But in reality these fee are meaningless since the seats are sold for much higher amounts.
It will be a fair assumption that the pvt colleges will hike the fee by atleast 50% if CET-NEET is implemented since they will fall short of funds. DONT AGREE? Just look at the last year fee structure of MAHE, perhaps the only pvt university conducting a fair exam. The fee was a whooping 8 LAKHS/ annum.

Hence, this increase of seats will be in reality a SPURIOUS one in MEDICAL TERMS because only if u can pay upto 30 lakhs you can lay your hand on these seats.
So THINK TWICE b4 rejoicing on the projected addition of these seats to the lot.

4. Another impt advantage claimed is that since there will be only 1 exam , it will be fair. Every1 knows at present even AIIMS is marred by seat booking scandals & the situation in states is grimmer. Well if there is a common exam, it will be given by about 1 LAKH people. (At present, AIPG is given by abt 70,000 people annually with an annual increase of about 5 % , due to inc in MBBS seats).
A fair conclusion would be that CET NEET CAN BE FAIR ONLY IF IT IS ONLINE, given the magnitude. If it would be a paper based test, it is very difficult to believe that it will be free from the evils which have trangressed all entrance exams in the country.

DISADVANTAGES

1. Since it will be a ONCE IN A YEAR exam as proposed ( & not round the year like USMLE) , the situation will be really grim for a person who has a bad day / fairs poorly coz of any reason. there will be practically no options available.

2. The change in pattern would result in experimentation for atleast first 3 years before any stable patterns emerge. LUCK would hence play a big role in first 3 NEETs.

3. The basic strategy of preparation will change. From what appears, we would have to leave guides & go back to textbooks.

4. Existing state Quotas & reservations will STAY UNCHANGED. So practically exam will be ONE, but seats remain SAME. You would have to still run for counselling as you do now since STATES retain counselling rights as per NEET guidelines. Only the merit list will be prepared by centre.

POINTS WHICH MAY MAKE NEET 2012 POSSIBLE
Enthusiasm of aspirants.
Sadly no other points

POINTS LIKELY TO BLOCK NEET 2012
1. Financial interests of pvt colleges, politicos.
2. Arrogant egoistic attitude of some states.
3. INHERENT LACUNAS IN DRAFT which will be challenged.
4. EVEN HIGH COURTS CAN STAY MCI decisions.

CONCLUSION is left to you.
Will NEET PG be held in 2012?
Will it really be as useful as we all believe?

JUST A POINT IN PASSING:
NEET-CET UG will start in May 2012. Do u rly think NEET PG can start before that?

The decision to increase central PG pool from 15 to 50 % was approved by cabinet in 2000. But it was implemented in 2003. There is no official confirmation that NEET PG has been approved by cabinet as yet.
